Terms of Service
Last updated: 28 August 2026
1. Acceptance
By creating an AfriBUD account or using the mobile app or website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What AfriBUD is
AfriBUD is a carpool / lift-club platform under the South African National Land Transport Act (NLTA). Drivers may recover fuel and toll costs only — not profit. AfriBUD is not a taxi or e-hailing operator.
3. Fares and fees
- Driver cost-share is calculated server-side using the NLTA cost-recovery formula.
- The platform booking fee is a fixed R5 per booking, separate from the driver fare.
- Surge pricing is not used (
surge_multiplier = 1.00). - Per-seat cost-share is capped at R2000.
4. Driver verification
Drivers must submit identity and vehicle documents for manual review before offering rides. AfriBUD may approve, reject, or request resubmission. Rejected drivers receive a reason when provided by reviewers.
5. User conduct
You must provide accurate information, treat other users respectfully, and comply with South African road and transport law. Harassment, fraud, or using the platform for unlicensed commercial transport is prohibited.
6. Payments
The R5 platform fee is processed via Paystack where enabled. Driver cost-share is paid directly between rider and driver (cash or EFT) unless otherwise stated in-app.
7. Limitation of liability
AfriBUD facilitates matching and booking but does not operate vehicles. To the extent permitted by law, AfriBUD is not liable for the acts of drivers or riders, road incidents, or delays. Use the in-app safety features and emergency services when needed.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or pose a safety risk. You may stop using the service at any time and request account deletion via support@afribud.co.za.
